WooCommerce to Shopify, variations and all
Variable products, global attributes, plugin features, product reviews and years of WordPress URLs. We move the store, replace what the plugins did, and keep your search traffic.
Why WooCommerce stores move
WooCommerce is flexible because it runs on WordPress. That flexibility comes with maintenance: hosting, security updates, plugin conflicts, slow pages as the catalogue grows, and checkout problems after an update. Owners usually move to Shopify to stop being their own IT department.
What needs special care with WooCommerce
- Variable products. WooCommerce stores a variable product as a parent row and one row per variation. These must be regrouped into a single Shopify product with variants, without losing prices, stock or SKUs per variation.
- Attributes. WooCommerce allows many attributes per product. Shopify allows three options. Attributes used for filtering but not for choosing a variant are better moved to metafields.
- Plugins. Subscriptions, bookings, product add-ons, wholesale pricing and custom fields come from plugins. Each one needs a Shopify equivalent, or a different approach.
- Reviews. Product reviews are stored in WordPress comments. Review apps on Shopify can import them, so your social proof is not lost.
- URLs. WooCommerce URLs like /product/name/ and /product-category/name/ change to /products/ and /collections/. Blog posts and pages change too.
Plugin to Shopify equivalents
| On WooCommerce | On Shopify |
|---|---|
| WooCommerce Subscriptions | Shopify Subscriptions or a subscription app |
| Product Add-Ons | Line item properties or a product options app |
| Wholesale pricing plugins | Shopify B2B or a wholesale app, depending on your plan |
| Yoast or Rank Math SEO fields | Shopify SEO title and meta description, imported per product |
| Custom fields (ACF) | Metafields and metaobjects |
| Bookings plugin | A booking app, or a custom booking flow |
Before we quote, we list your active plugins and tell you which features move easily, which need an app and which need a different approach.
Our process
- List plugins, custom code and features in use
- Export products, customers, orders and reviews
- Regroup variations, map attributes to options or metafields
- Rebuild collections from categories and tags
- Import and test a sample, then everything
- Redirect every product, category, post and page URL
- Check Search Console and fix anything that surfaces
Keep WordPress for the blog?
Some stores have years of blog content on WordPress that ranks well. Moving it to Shopify's blog is usually fine, but if the blog is large and complex, keeping it on WordPress on a subdomain is an option. We will look at your traffic before recommending either.
Questions, answered
Will my product reviews come over?
Yes, in most cases. Reviews can be exported from WordPress and imported into a Shopify review app.
Can I keep my subscriptions running?
Active subscriptions need careful handling because payment details are held by your payment provider. We plan this case by case with you.
Is Shopify really faster?
Shopify's hosting is managed and generally fast. Speed still depends on the theme and apps, so we keep both lean.
