BigCommerce to Shopify, modifiers and price lists included
BigCommerce has concepts Shopify does not, like modifiers and price lists. We map each one to the right Shopify feature so nothing your customers rely on disappears.
Concepts that do not map one to one
- Variant options versus modifiers. On BigCommerce, variant options create SKUs while modifiers (like engraving text or a gift wrap checkbox) do not. Shopify has variants, but no native modifiers. Modifiers move to line item properties or an options app.
- Custom fields. BigCommerce custom fields become Shopify metafields, which can then show on the product page or power filters.
- Price lists and customer groups. Group pricing and price lists map to Shopify B2B catalogues on Shopify Plus, or to a wholesale app on other plans.
- Categories. Nested BigCommerce categories become Shopify collections, with navigation menus rebuilt to keep the same structure.
- URLs. BigCommerce product URLs often sit at the root of the domain. Every one of them needs a redirect to its new /products/ address.
When moving makes sense
BigCommerce is a capable platform, especially for B2B. Stores usually move to Shopify for its app ecosystem, its checkout, its point of sale for physical stores, or because their team finds Shopify easier to run day to day. Will my product filters still work?
Yes. Filters on Shopify come from options, tags, vendor, type and metafields. We set your custom fields up as metafields so they can be filtered.
How do you handle large catalogues?
With bulk import tools and scripts, tested on a sample first. Big catalogues are where careful mapping matters most.
